The keys F1-F12 in a row at the very top of the keyboard are the function keys. Each of these keys is used for individual purposes. Basically, there is no alternative to these keys to make the computer operate easily.

F1: It acts as a help key. Press the F1 key while the window of any program is open. Then you will see the help window.

F5: F5 works to refresh web pages or documents in a web browser.

It also works to refresh on desktop or Windows Explorer.

In Microsoft Word, Find, Replace and Go to Window will open when the Go to Tab is selected.

To show a slide show in Microsoft PowerPoint, press the F5 key.

F6: Press F6 to move the cursor to the address bar of the web browser.

Press Ctrl + Shift + F6 to toggle from one document to another in Microsoft Office (such as Word).

F7: To check spelling and grammar in Microsoft Office, press the F7 key.

Pressing Shift + F7 will check the highlighted word (if there is a cursor in the word) Thesaurus.

Carat browsing (using a movable cursor on a web page) in Firefox can be done by pressing the F7 key.

F8: The F8 key is pressed to go to the Windows Startup menu and is usually used to run Windows Safe Mode.
