The keys F1-F12 in a row at the very top of the keyboard are the function keys. Each of these keys is used for individual purposes. Basically, there is no alternative to these keys to make the computer operate easily.
However, many of us have no idea about these keys, again many people know very little. Moreover, we may forget that we do not always use all the function keys. So make today’s post by thinking about all of you and thinking about the maximum use of all function keys. I hope you find it useful.
F1: It acts as a help key. Press the F1 key while the window of any program is open. Then you will see the help window.
- To enter CMOS Setup, press the key.
- Pressing Ctrl + F1 can also show and hide Microsoft Office Ribbon / Task Pan.
- Pressing Windows Key + F1 will open the Microsoft Windows Help and Support Center
F2: To rename files and folders in all versions of Windows, you can rename files or folders by selecting them.

Press Alt + Ctrl + F2 to open a document window in Microsoft Office. For example, if you go to PowerPoint and press these keys, a window will appear entitled “Open”. It allows you to open PowerPoint files (other files can also be opened).

F3: If you press the F3 key from the desktop, the search option will open. Similarly, in the applications that use the search option, such as web browser – press F3, the search option will come. However, it does not work in all applications.
Pressing F3 on MS-DOS or Windows command line will show the last command.
Shift + F3 is used in Microsoft Office to change cases (all upper, all lower, only the first letter of each word is uppercase).
Pressing Windows Key + F3 will show the Outlook search option.
Apple Computer’s Mac OS X will open Mission Control.
F4: Windows 25 will open the Find window in XP.
Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer will open the address bar. (In Firefox or any other browser, select the address bar and press F4, the address bar will open.
Microsoft will repeat the last thing you did in Office. For example, if you press F4 after pressing backspace, it will work for backspace. Once you paste a text, the text will be pasted every time you press F4, etc.
Pressing Alt + F4 will close the window that is open. And if you press these two keys from the desktop, the shutdown option will come.
Press Ctrl + F4 to close the subwindow. For example, in Microsoft Word, if you press these two keys while a file is open, the document you open will close, not the Word application. Similarly, this shortcut will come in handy in applications that can open Photoshop or Multi-Document.
F5: F5 works to refresh web pages or documents in a web browser.
It also works to refresh on desktop or Windows Explorer.
In Microsoft Word, Find, Replace and Go to Window will open when the Go to Tab is selected.
To show a slide show in Microsoft PowerPoint, press the F5 key.
F6: Press F6 to move the cursor to the address bar of the web browser.
Press Ctrl + Shift + F6 to toggle from one document to another in Microsoft Office (such as Word).
F7: To check spelling and grammar in Microsoft Office, press the F7 key.
Pressing Shift + F7 will check the highlighted word (if there is a cursor in the word) Thesaurus.
Carat browsing (using a movable cursor on a web page) in Firefox can be done by pressing the F7 key.
F8: The F8 key is pressed to go to the Windows Startup menu and is usually used to run Windows Safe Mode.
F9: Measurement toolbar can be opened in Quark 5.O.
Shows all open windows for Mac OS 10.3 or later.
Fn + F9 will open Mission Control on Apple Computer’s Mac OS X.
F10: The menubar is active in Windows or other applications.
Shift + F10 works with the right mouse button.

F12: The Save S window opens in Microsoft Office.
Av12 uses F12 to change the keyboard (it is changeable). In that case, the Save S window does not show in Microsoft Office.
Pressing Shift + F12 saves Microsoft Office documents.
Ctrl + Shift + F12 comes with the print option in Microsoft Office.
Microsoft Expression previews web pages.
Firebug opens.
Apple Computer’s Mac OS 10.4 shows and hides the dashboard in later versions.

Although these keys used to be on IBM computers, now they are not on the keyboard.
